* 2018 format updates to Masters Men & Women categories:

  • Men - to more accurately serve the Masters and the categories who have and/or will race the Joe Martin Stage Race, we are going to let the free market system determine the category range of riders.  The breakdown will be either Cat 1,2,3 or Category 2,3,4.  This will be determinded by first equally weighting Cat 1 and 4.  And then giving an equal half weighting to Cat 2 & 3.  Essentially if more Cat 1's register than Cat 4's, the breakdown will be Cat 1-3 only racing.  A determination of category breakdown will be announced on March 1.  For those who are "outside" the final category breakdown, then you will be given two options - transfer to your respective amateur 2-day, 3-stage category or a refund.
  • Women - in order to continue to sustain and support a seperate Master's Women's field, a minimum of 15 riders must be registered by March 1.  We have supported Women's Masters racing since the early 90's, but we can't continue with a 6 or 7 rider seperate field for the Sunday criterium.  If less than 15 riders are registered, then you will have three options.  Riders can transfer to their category (if Cat 3, 4 or 5), stay in the combined field (including the crit) and compete for seperate prize money or a refund.  My wife has raced the Joe Martin Stage Race as a Masters 21 times and she, as well as others are in full support of this policy.  In her words, "if Masters Women want to support the race, then they will recruit more riders or they can race their category."
